Innovation at the Core of Hispanic Businesses!

BETHESDA, MARYLAND, SEPTEMBER 13, 2015- Innovative and enthusiastic Hispanic entrepreneurs presented their businesses and concepts to a panel of experts for a $5,000 cash prize and a year of mentoring and support.

Cool & Associates (C&A) developed and launched the Latino Innovators' Pitch, the capstone event of the 14th annual Maryland Hispanic Business Conference, to highlight the increasing number of Hispanic businesses in Maryland.

With this year's conference theme focused on "Innovation and Growth," the Latino Innovators' Pitch showcased state-of-the-art businesses and dispelled the prevailing misconceptions about Hispanic entrepreneurs.

After a dynamic presentation, the judges named Juan Barbaran, founder of #Juan Guacamole, the winner of the inaugural Latino Innovator's Pitch. "The $5k is huge, but more valuable to me is the 12 months of guidance and support," said Juan Barbaran. "It will help me take my business to the next level." Barbaran, a Peruvian-American, projects $100K in 2015 yearend revenues. The judges and audience of 200+ savored his delicious guacamole and hot sauce during the pitch session.

"It was a thrill to be a judge on the inaugural Latino Innovators Pitch; the 2015 contestants showcased a wide array of viable businesses, some of them already contributing to our local economy through jobs and innovative products," said Diana Torruella Gaines, Managing Director of Tu Casa Development Group LLC., and Judge. "I would definitely consider making a personal investment in one (or more) of these businesses."

Cool & Associates LLC created the 12 dynamic conference seminars on topics ranging from supplier diversity to the Latino effect to exploring franchising opportunities. This year's conference attracted more than 500 attendees.

With Hispanics establishing businesses at three times the national average, the Latino Innovators' Pitch served as a way to celebrate the contribution of  Hispanic Entrepreneurs in Maryland.

The four presenting finalists represented the region's vibrant business sector since Maryland is home to more than 40,000 Hispanic businesses.
