Dear members and friends,

I would like to begin by congratulating our very own Juan Barbaran, Director of the Board and Chair of the Partnerships and Membership Committee, for being selected as one of The Daily Record’s “2016 VIP List — Very Important Professionals Successful by 40” award recipients.  This year only 42 people made the cut. Congratulations as well to Lanaea Featherstone, Founder and President of the William & Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation and a very active member of the MDHCC for also making the list. Juan and Lanaea, we are so proud of you and join you in celebrating this great honor and the distinct and profound impact you have in our State and in our Hispanic Community.

As you know we are very proud to be celebrating our 30 year anniversary this year, and want to make sure you all know of our 30 Year Celebration taking place on August 25.  Please mark your calendars, as this event will be a grand one, featuring MDHCC’s former chairmen and chairwomen, VIPs, (we have extended an invitation to Governor Hogan to attend), great food, fantastic networking and an opportunity to celebrate our 30 years of hard work representing the Hispanic community and our business interests in the State of Maryland.  Registration will be opening soon and we will let you know.

Also, please make sure to attend, and to let your network know about, this very important workshop on the new Federal Overtime Rule.  Our partners at the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation have put together a great informational workshop on this topic that will take place on June 30. You can register here:

I would also like to take the time to congratulate and welcome Ms. Vanessa Lopez to the MDHCC Board of Directors and to the very important Treasurer position within our officers. Ms. Lopez will help us guide our finances and investments and comes to us with years of experience and superb expertise in the accounting, regulatory and financial fields.  Welcome aboard!  Also, I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to thank our Marketing Committee Chair and Secretary, Mrs. Corey Sale, for serving as our interim Treasurer as we conducted our search.  Thank you, Corey!

I close with a reminder of the challenge I proposed to you, our members, last month: get to know one another and our businesses.  If we could all look to one another for the professional services we need to run our businesses, we would be supporting local Hispanic businesses and those businesses that support our community. Check our website and log in to the members-only pages where you will be able to see all our members and their contact information. Meet them face-to-face at our upcoming events mentioned above, and start building the relationships that being a member of our Chamber facilitates.

We at the MDHCC Board of Directors wish you a great beginning of summer and every success for the next half of 2016.
