Cafecito con Luis Gutierrez

President/CEO - Dream Management, Inc.

Luis Gutierrez is an entrepreneur originally from Nicaragua, Central America. Luis is a co-founder of the following organizations: the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Maryland Hispanic Business Conference. He is always looking for ways to foster the unification of the minority organizations in the region to promote common goals, and achieve a successful cooperation in the business arena, as well as in the legislative participation process. Luis is the owner and President/CEO of Dream Management, Inc. (DMI), which is a company with two divisions: Transportation and Foreign Language service. His company has been in business since 1999.

What is the focus of Dream Management, Inc.?

Shuttle Transportation and Foreign Language services for the federal government and corporate businesses.

Why did you decide to start Dream Management, Inc.?

Creating a business was, and still is, an instrument of economic independence, creativity and self-determination.

What impact has being a member of the MDHCC had on you and your business?

The main impact has been getting to know other Hispanic business owners with the same goals and being able to build a network of colleagues.

What are your expansion plans for the future?

I’m in the process of separating the two unrelated businesses (transportation and Language) we have under one umbrella, so they can run free in their own directions.

What is the hardest decision you have had to make in your business?

Putting my house as a collateral for my business loans.

If you had to go back and do it again…would you? What would you change?

Knowing what I know now, I would make different decisions on different situations, there are so many ways of arriving to the same destination. For instance, I would buy a struggling business and right the ship. Building a business from scratch requires an entire life, but if you are adventurous, the journey may be more exciting than the destination. But one thing is certain, I would do it again.

What business and leadership advice can you give our members?

Resist the temptation to get involved in politics. At the end, business is stronger and more important than politics.

What inspires you?

Knowing that you are making a big difference on people’s life by providing your services.

Who is your mentor?

I consider Anthony Ruiz (SBA business advisor) my main mentor.
