What is the focus of Baltimore Gas and Electric?

Headquartered in Baltimore City, BGE is Maryland’s largest natural gas and electric utility, delivering power to more than 1.25 million electric customers and more than 650,000 natural gas customers in central Maryland.

Why did you decide to join BGE?

What attracted me to BGE was its mission. Electricity and natural gas are in many ways foundational to our modern lives and arguably more so today than when I joined almost 20 years ago.  BGE’s purpose is to safely and economically deliver electricity and natural gas to our customers.  Being part of a company and team that is so instrumental to modern life continues to motivate me to this day.

Who are your clients?

Effectively anyone who wants electricity or natural gas delivered to them in our service territory in central Maryland is our customer.

What impact has being a member of the MDHCC had on you and your company?

MDHCC has allowed BGE to expand its relationships in the community which helps BGE understand our customers better and ultimately provide them with a better customer experience.

What has this year been like?

2017 has started well for us. Through the first quarter of this year, BGE has had its best ever electric reliability performance. This is a direct result of BGE’s modernization investments in our systems.

What business and leadership advice can you give our members?

Two pieces of advice come to mind.

First, make sure you appreciate the distinction between a manager and a leader. Managers keep tasks on target. Leaders provide a vision that the entire organization can embrace. Both roles are necessary but distinct.

Second, it’s not enough to have sufficient staff for the tasks at hand.  They need to be the right staff. Staff committed to the mission of the business. Only committed staff can help the organization meet and exceed its business goals.

Bachata, Merengue or Salsa?

What is your favorite Spanish Word?

Dinero – no surprise since I work in Finance.

Café…con leche y azúcar or black?
