Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Looks for
Immigrant Business Owners for Focus Group

Baltimore, MD—June 30, 2017—The Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MDHCC), the leading chamber of commerce representing and connecting over 54,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in the region, is helping recruit participants for a Focus Group that will take place on Wednesday, July 12, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gallery Church in Patterson Park (3115 Eastern Avenue). Each participant will receive compensation of $40.

Participants are encouraged to apply if they are immigrants who own a business in Baltimore City. To be considered please send an email to or call 410-300-7034 to contact Dr. Felipe Filomeno, the Focus Group facilitator and researcher.

The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant and Multicultural Affairs (MIMA) of Baltimore City and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), are working on research that will lead to recommendations to make Baltimore City more attractive for immigrants and their businesses.

“The focus group participants will provide deeper insight into our understanding of the challenges that immigrant business-owners face in Baltimore City,” said Dr Filomeno. “We also want to understand the benefits that these immigrant business owners enjoy from having their businesses in Baltimore City,” he concluded.

“We are looking forward to helping Dr. Filomeno, UMBC, and MIMA recruit Hispanic and non-Hispanic immigrant business owners in Baltimore City,” said MDHCC’s Chairman & President, Jorge E. Castillo. “It is important for our businesses to participate because that means that they are helping to make Baltimore, our home, more welcoming for immigrants and their businesses. Although foreign-born immigrants make up 7% of the population of Baltimore, we comprise 21% of the business owners,” he added.
