Baltimore, MD—April 09, 2018—The Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MDHCC), the leading chamber of commerce representing and connecting over 60,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in the region, was honored last month when The Daily Record named its Chairman and President, Jorge Eduardo Castillo, one of this year’s Influential Marylanders.

According to their website, The Daily Record created these awards to recognize individuals who have significantly contributed to their field and who have distinguished themselves as leaders. As a prominent minority business advocate and the leader of Maryland’s fastest-growing chamber of commerce, Castillo was honored in the category of civic leadership. Under his leadership, the MDHCC reached its highest level of retention in its 32-year history, 94%, and continues to expand with the emergence of new chapters and innovative programs such as Business Advocacy & Mentorship (BAM!).

“Though I am honored to receive this recognition, this is truly a recognition of everyone on the MDHCC team, both past and present,” said Castillo. “The hard work of these individuals, most of whom volunteer for the MDHCC, is the reason why we have been able to grow and soar,” he continued. “This award goes to them, as no one leader could accomplish anything without a dedicated and talented group of people. I am blessed and grateful to have the distinguished honor of working with each and every one of them.”

Among the other individuals honored were several MDHCC members and Business Excellence Award honorees, including Calvin Butler, representative of MDHCC Chairman’s Circle Partner BGE; Goucher College President, Jose Bowen, Winner of the MDHCC’s first-ever Educator of the Year award; and Wallace Loh, University of Maryland President, 2017 Educator of the Year award nominee.

All of the honorees were recognized at The Daily Record’s awards reception on March 22, 2018 at the Grand Lodge of Maryland.
