Dear members and friends,

As we move swiftly into the middle of Q3 of 2018, we have begun to see the effects of the tariffs in a few sectors of our national economy. The long-term damage to certain Maryland manufacturers is still a real possibility, but, one thing is for certain, the Maryland consumer will invariably suffer the greatest. The global economy stands to lose an estimated $430 Billion dollars according to the IMF because of the imposition of the tariffs. As consumers we will invariably feel the pain. And as business owners, that wallet-tightening by consumers will directly affect our balance sheets. We urge our state representatives and our congressional delegation to take immediate action. Protectionist measures have been tried in this country and the world before. They simply do not work.

And now, let’s move on to more positive things. Our MDHCC Roundtables are picking up steam! Our third monthly MDHCC Roundtable was held earlier in July and once again provided noncompeting CEO's, founders, and business owners with the opportunity to discuss their business challenges and potential opportunities with other experienced colleagues. There are a couple of spaces for the remaining 8 sessions so if you are interested in signing up for this exclusive member opportunity, please contact Gigi Guzman, BAM! Committee Chair, at

Our Summer MDHCC Networking After 5 took place on July 19th at the gorgeous rooftop deck of 10 Light Street. Thank you again to all who attended and to our partners who made it possible. Visit and follow our social media pages for photos.

We continue to evaluate candidates to serve in the leadership committee of the MDHCC’s Capital Area Regional Chapter, the CARC. We would like your participation! Please send an email with your resume and a letter of intent to to be considered. Requirements are: unbendable ethics, vision, a desire to help without expecting returns to benefit you or your business directly (you and your business will benefit tremendously in the long term, however), grit, perseverance and commitment to follow through with what you say you will do.

Please have a wonderful month of August and if you are vacationing on the eastern shore, please make sure you are aware of your storm evacuation zone. Visit to find out.
